Self-Publishing Process
At I've Been Licked Books each book is proofed, edited and test-read multiple times before publication in order to assure that we provide a smooth-flowing book with high quality content and finish to each of our customers.
When an idea for a book is formed, our first step is to speak with parents of target-audience aged children (approximately ages 3-9) to see what their experiences have been with their own children regarding the subject matter of the book. Next, images are shot and selected and the story is written. Following multiple rounds of proofreading, it is then sent to an outside editor to be checked for grammar as well as content and flow.
After any necessary corrections from the editor are made, each book is printed out, placed in a portfolio binder, and test-read to classes of students in various grades at schools such as Rodeo Hills Elementary in Rodeo, California, American River Montessori in Folsom, California, and Walter Jackson Elementary School in Decatur, Alabama, by a teacher or librarian so that we may take note of the students' responses to the book as well as any questions or concerns raised by the students, teachers or librarian. All questions and concerns are then addressed, and changes are made to the book when appropriate, before a final round of outside editing and corrections, and finally, printing.
We hope you enjoy our books!
